Current study evaluated the effect of different sexual groups and different concentrate levels in diets on animal performance, feed efficiency and carcass characteristics of bovines finished in feedlot. Ninety four bulls and 75 steers Purunã with average age 19 months at the beginning of the feedlot period were used. Animals were maintained in individual pens during 116 days and fed with a diet of corn silage and three concentrate levels (0.8, 1.1, and 1.4% of body weight). The concentrate was formulated with 25% soybean meal, 73% corn grain, 1.0% of a mineral mix and 1.0% limestone and adjusted at every 28 days. The interaction between sexual groups and concentrate levels was not significant for any of the studied variables. Bulls were more efficient than...

Glycerin and essential oils in the diet of Nellore bulls finished in feedlot: animal performance and apparent digestibility Animal Sciences
Silva, Lorrayny Galoro da; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Torrecilhas, Juliana Akamine; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Ornaghi, Mariana Garcia; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Eiras, Carlos Emanuel; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Prado, Rodolpho Martin do; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Prado, Ivanor Nunes do; Universidade Estadual de Maringá.
Current research studied the effect of partial replacing corn by glycerin and essential oils addition in the diet of Nellore bulls finished in feedlot on feed intake, animal performance and three markers were assessed to estimate apparent digestibility. Thirty bulls with average weight 400 ± 34.1 kg and 22 ± 2 months old were housed in collective pens (10 x 20 m2) for 63 days. The bulls were randomly assigned to 3 diets (10 bulls per treatment): CON – Control (without glycerin or Essential® oils); GLY – Glycerin (15% on dry matter - DM); and GEO – Glycerin (15% on DM) and Essential® oils (3 g animal day-1). Three different markers were used to estimate apparent digestibility in the diets: indigestible dry matter –iDM; indigestible neutral detergent fiber –...

Glycerin levels in the diets for crossbred bulls finished in Feed-lot: ingestive behavior, Feeding and rumination Efficiency doi:10.4025/actascianimsci.v35i4.19090 Animal Sciences

This work was carried out to study corn substituting by glycerin levels on animal behavior, feeding and rumination efficiency of Purunã young bulls finished in feed-lot. It was utilized 40 bulls Purunã breed with 208.8 ± 33.75 kg and 8 months old. The diets were: without glycerin - G00, 6% of glycerin – G06, 12% of glycerin – G12 and 18% of glycerin – G18. Dry matter intake was similar among diets. On the other hand, NDF intake decreased linearly with glycerin levels supplementation in the diets. FEDM and FENDF were similar among diets. REDM and RENDF were not changed due glycerin levels. Glycerin changed activities durations of bulls. Glycerin did not affect feed frequency. At contrary, rumination frequency was reduced linearly with glycerin inclusion....

Meat quality from four genetic groups of bulls slaughtered at 14 months old - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v34i4.14728 Animal Sciences
Ito, Roberto Haruyoshi; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Valero, Maribel Velandio; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Prado, Rodolpho Martin; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Rivaroli, Dayane Cristina; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Perotto, Daniel; Polo Regional de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Curitiba; Prado, Ivanor Nunes do; Universidade Estadual de Maringá.
Carcass characteristics and chemical composition of Longissimus muscle of 32 young bulls from four genetic groups slaughtered at 14 months old were evaluated. Experimental design was completely randomized and distributed into four genetics groups: 1. Caracu (CAR); 2. Canchin (CAN); 3. Charolais vs. Caracu (CHC) and 4. Aberdeen Angus vs. Canchin (AAC). Carcass dressing and carcass conformation were lower for CAR than CAN, CHC and AAC genetic groups. No difference has been reported with regard to moisture, ash, crude protein, total lipids and total cholesterol among four genetics groups. The genetic groups influence fatty acid profile on Longissimus muscle in bulls. Cattle with zebu genes had the highest rates in unsaturated fatty acids, saturated fatty...

Performance, digestibility, microbial production and carcass characteristics of feedlot young bulls fed diets containing propolis - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v34i4.15167 Animal Sciences

The objective was to evaluate the effect of propolis-based products (PBP) on performance, digestibility, microbial production and carcass characteristics of feedlot young bulls. Twenty-seven crossbred young bulls were used, with 353 ± 28 kg of body weight in a completely randomized experimental design, divided in three treatments: two diets with PBP with different dosages (PBP1= 0.018 mg g-1 and PBP2= 0.036 mg g-1 of total flavonoids in chrysin) and control diet (CON). To determine total digestibility, the indigestible dry matter was used as an internal marker, while microbial production was estimated from purine derivatives in urine, collected by the spot method. The evaluated carcass characteristics were: hot carcass weight, dressing percentage,...

Superovulatory response, production and quality of embryos of cows fed on linseed or canola seed supplemented diets - doi: 10.4025/actascianimsci.v34i3.13372 Animal Sciences
Albuquerque, Karina Perohouskei; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Prado, Ivanor Nunes do; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Prado, Rodolpho Martin do; 9850-7326; Cavallieri, Fábio Luiz Bin; Centro Universitário de Maringá; Rigolon, Luiz Paulo; Universidade Estadual de Maringá; Barbosa, Orlando Rus; Universidade Estadual de Maringá.
Superovulatory response, production and embryo quality and the effects of seasonal changes on embryo production of Nellore cows fed on either linseed (n-3) or canola seeds (n-6) were evaluated. Sixteen Nellore cows (550 ± 48.0 kg) were fed on three diets: control diet (CON), diet with linseed (LIN) and diet with canola seed (CAN) during four seasons. There was no difference in superovulatory response and in total corpora lutea produced when diets are taken into consideration. The number of cows that responded to superovulatory treatment was higher in the winter (93.8%) than in the summer (62.5%). No difference with regard to the three diets existed on the average number of total structures (6.20, 4.96 and 6.50), unfertilized structures (2.53, 1.17 and...
